Is this for real or is it just an elaborate attempt to mock Christianity? The letter to the Kansas School Board claims 10 million believers.

Well, Pastafarianism has spread virally. Parody or not, if 10 million people believes in the divine Pasta (pesto be upon him!), then that is 10 million people more than, say, the United Four Square Church in Palawan.

It is not designed to mock Christianity, there are already enough religions doing that. It is originally designed to challenge Intelligent Design. But now, it is exposing Theism itself, whereby each believer demands that his/her beliefs and religious practices be respected. Well, the Pastafarians are demanding that we respect their holy Spaghetti as well; their rituals, their holy Scripture, etc. A Pastafarian is as devout a believer as you and me.
